Bunny Room Tour — A Look Inside Ronnie, Daisy & Willow’s Indoor Set-Up

Following on from our first blog post, we wanted to share a closer look at our indoor bunny room — the space designed just for Ronnie, Daisy and Willow. We often get questions about it, so here’s a full tour of how we’ve set it up for the buns!
We hope this post gives you a bit of bunny room inspo, whether you’re setting up a dedicated space or just looking to make your home more rabbit-friendly.
Why We Created a Bunny Room
When Ronnie first joined our family back in 2020, he had his own enclosure that I built in our dining room while he settled into our home. After a week, we soon realised that the enclosure wasn’t really needed, so it was only used as a space for him (with the door kept open). We decided to pack it away a couple of months later and transform what was once our dining room into a bunny room instead.
The space was fully transformed into a bunny-friendly area with the IKEA HOL, which I noticed many other bunny owners use too, and we have made many changes to the decor over the years. It gives the buns somewhere to relax, play and feel secure — especially when we’re out of the house or winding down for the evening.

Layout & Bunny-Proofing
The room has a few different zones:
- Sleeping areas: The buns have different spots where they like to sleep.
- Litter boxes & hay feeders: These are placed in designated areas for easy access.
- Open space: There’s plenty of room for zoomies and play.
- Hidey spots: A couple of extra places where they can feel safe and secure.
I have bun-proofed the entire downstairs of our house — using C&C Grids to cover the back of the TV stand, so they can’t reach the wires. I’ve also hidden cables in handy cable tidy boxes and bun-proofed any wires that I can’t hide (like on our air purifiers). The flooring is easy to clean, which is essential when you have three buns! Non-slip rugs help to keep their little paws comfy too.

Essentials & Everyday Items
Here’s what we’ve included in their room:
- Litter trays with hay feeders
- Stainless steel litter boxes for easy cleaning
- One used as a large forage box and as a litter box for in their outdoor set up
- Another placed inside the IKEA HOL with hay feeders from Small Pet Select, which attach perfectly to the inside of the HOL

- IKEA HOL
- Perfect for hiding litter boxes and hay feeders
- Helps to contain a majority of the hay in one place
- Also doubles as a cosy napping spot at one end
- Want to see how I cut the entrances to the IKEA HOL and set it up for the buns? You can watch the full process in this YouTube Short or check it out on our Instagram.
- This is the second IKEA HOL; we bought the first in January 2021 and replaced it in February 2025

- Large ceramic water bowl & pet bed
- Heavy and durable, so they can’t tip it over easily
- A soft, comfy pet bed that the buns sometimes use for extra comfort. I alternate it between their bunny room and the living room, providing them with a cosy spot to relax and stretch out.

- Hidden plant litter box
- Cleverly disguised as part of the decor while serving its purpose

- Variety of hidey spots
- Easy-to-clean rugs and washable cushion
- Rug in their bunny room which I find easy to clean and adds comfort to their little paws
- Cushion on top of the IKEA HOL for added comfort and easy maintenance with its washable cover
- Hay storage
- Conveniently stored in our kitchen cupboard for easy access, topped up every few days
Enrichment & Toys

I rotate their toys regularly to keep things interesting. Some of their favourites are:
- Large dig/forage box
- Filled with their favourite tasty treats, shredded brown paper and cardboard to dig through, given once a week
- Tunnels
- For running through, chewing and napping in
- Snuffle mats & activity toys
- Engaging and fun for the buns to use
- Variety of natural chew toys
- Great for keeping their teeth healthy and preventing boredom
I love making simple DIY toys using brown paper bags, toilet roll tubes, or brown paper — it doesn’t have to be fancy to be fun… plus it usually gets destroyed in 0.3 seconds anyway!
Cosy Corners
Each bunny has their own favourite nap spot:
- Ronnie: Usually napping inside or on top of the IKEA HOL
- Daisy: Prefers to nap under our kitchen bin! It’s the Brabanita Bo Touch Bin, which has space underneath for the buns to fit. Multi-functional furniture? Bin by day, nap spot by choice!
- Willow: Likes to flop right in the middle of everything, always keeping an eye out — usually for when I open the fridge!

Evolving the Space
The bunny room isn’t static — I move things around often, adding or removing toys to keep it fresh and enriching. As seasons change, I also add more cosy blankets for warmth in winter and cooling options for summer. It’s also a great opportunity to see what they actually use (and what chew toys look cute, but actually get ignored!).

I’m always tweaking things and adding new elements. I regularly update everything on our socials, and I plan to do the same here on our blog.
Tips for Setting Up Your Own Bunny Room
- Space is SUPER important: They don’t need a whole room, but remember that the minimum recommended space is 3m x 2m with a height of at least 1m at all times. Cages & hutches aren’t enough! You can easily section off part of a room using C&C grids or a play/pet pen.
- Focus on the basics: hay/food, water, litter box, hiding spots and space to move.
- Keep it easy to clean and bunny-proofed: Make sure it’s safe and easy for you to maintain.
- Observe your rabbits: Watch how they interact with the space and adapt it to suit them.

Final Note
There’s still plenty more I’d like to add and improve, but this is what’s working well for us at the moment. If you’re thinking of setting up a bunny room or improving your current space, I hope this post has given you some ideas to get started.
